World IC Open Record Holder
Alien was started in June 2007 in an attempt to beat the existing land speed record for an RC car set by Nic Case at 134.4 mph. The car specs are as follows:
Stretched Kyosho Evolva chassis
Evolva front and back pods
3 x Novarossi 35PLUS21 engines
Custom body using Schumacher GTRE front and Lola rear
Weight 6 lbs
The car was initially two wheel drive by the rear wheels and was first tested at Mallory Park racetrack and managed 79mph. The handling was not great and so the car was converted to four wheel drive. The handling improved and I managed a pass of 81mph at Long Marston drag strip
The car was entered into the RC Action Worlds Fastest RC Car Competition held at the California Speedway, Fontana, Near Los Angeles USA. I managed 88mph and crashed out before it could really stretch its legs.
On 23rd September 2007 the car was entered into the UK RC Car Championships held at Shakespeare County Raceway, Near Stratford Upon Avon and managed to equal the fastest speed of the day with 103mph.
After a lot of development I made one final run on October 3rd 2007 and could not overcome the clutch and gearbox problems that had plagued the car from the very beginning. The car was dismantled and the parts used for other projects
The car still holds the World IC open record… for now…
